When the Mission Outshines the Frustration: Finding Purpose Amidst Challenges

Updated: Jul 21, 2023

There's a profound truth I want to share with you today: Your mission is greater than your frustration. This simple, yet profound principle, has been my guiding star through the darkest of nights, leading me through the mazes of anxiety, depression, and overthinking.

Now, you may wonder, what exactly sparked this realization? Let me take you on a journey through one of the most challenging times of my life.

As I was diligently building this very website, Learning While Healing, a passion project close to my heart, life took an unexpected turn. I tested positive for COVID-19. As a person with Lupus and interstitial lung disease (fibrosis), this diagnosis meant an arduously prolonged journey to recovery. The complexity of my condition added another layer of challenge to my healing process.

Frustration began to gnaw at my peace. I questioned why, at such a pivotal time, I was being redirected away from this project that I cherished so deeply. It felt as though I was being unfairly pulled away from my passion to focus instead on overcoming this health challenge.

However, in the silence of my recovery, a profound realization took root in my heart. The path I was on, this unexpected detour, was not diverting me away from my purpose, but rather, it was part of my journey. It was a reminder from God himself to pause, to care for myself, and to truly comprehend that healing—be it physical or emotional—is not a straight road.

During this time, I often found comfort and guidance in Psalm 23. It says, "Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me." I found solace in knowing that, despite the shadows of frustration that hovered around me, there was a greater power guiding me, comforting me.

And this was the moment when I fully grasped that my mission was indeed greater than any frustrations. My frustrations were but a passing storm, but my mission—this website, my aspiration to assist others in their healing journey—stood tall and unyielding like a lighthouse amidst a raging sea.

I share this personal story to reassure you that we each carry within us a mission, a purpose more potent and meaningful than any frustration we might encounter. My mission was to create a safe space for healing; your mission might be different. But whatever it may be, know that your purpose, your divine assignment, holds the power to weather any temporary setback, any fleeting frustration.
